CEREC Same-Day Crowns
Wearing a dental crown can restore the shape and health of teeth damaged by decay, trauma, or aging.
We are one of the few dental offices in San Diego County that offer CEREC digital dentistry, allowing us to create dental crowns on the same day. CEREC is the latest technology for designing and manufacturing dental crowns.

The Benefits of CEREC Same-Day Crowns
With no need for old-fashioned impression trays and materials, scanning is painless and comfortable. During the design and milling processes, crown design and manufacturing is computerized to ensure they are incredibly accurate and very well fitting. Because of this, the crowns usually don't need to be adjusted after delivery.
Your Crown Fit Your Lifestyle
The crown can be made out of porcelain or a variety of ceramic materials. Ceramic crowns are extremely strong and look very natural. They blend seamlessly with the rest of your teeth and feel exactly like your own. Same-day crowns are not only convenient and fast but also easy and painless, beautiful, and feel exactly like natural teeth.
Dental Crowns & Caps for Front Teeth
A front tooth crown is designed and fabricated much like a crown for a posterior tooth. However, choosing the right shade requires more artistic and design expertise and knowledge of materials. Dr. Shahrokh uses the best ceramic or porcelain material to create a natural-looking smile, and he has years of experience making front crowns.

Root Canal and Crowns Done on the Same Day
In most cases, the root canal can be completed with the crown in one day. This protects the tooth and reduces the number of appointments. However, we may refer you to a root canal specialist in more complex cases. When you have severe pain or infection, performing the root canal procedure in two appointments is best. Dr. Shahrokh will always do everything he can to minimize the time you spend in the chair.
Temporary Crowns
For single-tooth crowns, we rarely use temporary crowns since they are uncomfortable. In the case of large bridges and multiple crowns, however, the longer turnaround time for fabrication may require temporary crowns. Dr. Shahrokh will make sure your temporary crown feels and looks natural. In addition, since we do all of the work for crowns, bridges, and veneers here in our office, you only need a temporary crown for a few days instead of two to three weeks at a laboratory.
What's Better, a Crown or a Veneer?
A veneer covers or replaces only the front surface of a tooth. Veneers are the most conservative way to correct cosmetic issues like discolorations, chipped teeth, and spacing. In case of a large fracture, an existing tooth filling, a previous root canal treatment, or dental decay, a dental crown will be necessary to cover the whole tooth. Your dentist will determine the best treatment option after your dental exam. You can read more about Veneers by coming in for a dental exam.
A Crown with Cold Sensitivity
When a crown becomes sensitive to cold, it may be because of a defective crown, such as an open margin or an infection underneath. However, not all sensitivity requires a crown replacement. In some cases, sensitivity to cold perceived by a crown may be due to the gum recession or a different tooth in the area. A dental examination is necessary to diagnose the exact cause of sensitivity and to prescribe the appropriate treatment.
Implant Crowns
Similar to the root of a tooth, an implant crown is made from a titanium screw positioned in the jaw. Initially, the implant is positioned level with the top of the bone or slightly below it. Once the implant is fully fused with the surrounding bone, an abutment, and crown will be fabricated. A dental implant is connected to a crown by a titanium or zirconia abutment. The crown is either porcelain or ceramic and is cemented or screwed onto the abutment.
Dental Crown Versus Dental Bridge
If a tooth is fractured, broken, has a large cavity, or a large failing filling, a crown is needed to protect it. To fill a gap left after tooth loss, a bridge is needed. The bridge consists of three or more crowns connected to each crown.
Inlays and Onlays
Besides correcting minor structural defects in your teeth, porcelain and ceramic inlays and onlays are robust, look natural, and are easy to care for.
The Process of Creating Inlays and Onlays
The process for inlays and onlays is very simple and painless. The digital scanning of the teeth and fabrication of inlays and onlays are performed with our sophisticated CAD/CAM technology. First, by scanning the area that will receive the inlay/onlay thoroughly, we pick up the shape of the teeth and digitally create a model of them. Then, with our CEREC CAD/CAM design and milling machines, we design and fabricate the inlay/onlay on the same day.
The Benefits of Inlays and Onlays
Designing and fabricating the inlays/onlays is a computerized process. As a result, the end product is very precise, requiring little to no adjustment before delivery. Inlays and onlays are significantly stronger and last much longer than resin fillings due to the fact that they are made out of the same material as our crowns.
